day 9, 10, 11 / Serious?

Mmk. I might have been rude to a student. I didn't mean to be rude, but now I'm worrying about it. I'm a girl. And I'm a girl that runs things through my mind 2983743x more than the average person. I think. ;-)

Basically, a student asked a really silly question to get attention from classmates. Well, perhaps Student meant this question, but Student usually asks irrelevant questions to get the class off-task. Either way, I responded by asking Student, "Is this a real question?"

I told Christopher this story, expressing my frustration with Student's silly questions throughout the day. Christopher was concerned that I was rude with the student. He asked, "What if Student is scared to ask another question because you asked if Student was serious?"

Good point. I felt about 2 inches tall.

I am praying for patience. I pray daily for my class, their families, and for myself to be the best teacher I can be for them. Apparently I still need more patience. It'll come. I work with mostly teachers that have been teaching for 30+ years. They're.... fantastic. I just wish my fantastic would arrive faster than 30 years from now!

  1. I love the last look! I suspect that all teachers have these moments of realizing they've said the wrong thing. I've been teaching 23 years...and sometimes I still wonder. I know just the kind of student you're talking about. :)

  2. I think the simple fact that you care makes you an awesome teacher. Just keep an eye on the kid and see if he/she stops asking questions. You can always say, "hey kid, it looks like you have a question. Do you have something you want to ask?" That way he/she can feel invited to ask again. Plus, sometimes kids are manipulative and you need to say things like you did. Even if it feels cruddy. You done good, Teach!

  3. I love the last look, too! Very sophisticated... Yeah, I try to check myself if I have to step back and recollect myself whenever I lose my patience. Sometimes, it's as simple as going to the bathroom, sometimes it's telling my co-teacher to interact with the child more for the day. But I'm in a preschool, so my "impatient" days may be different.

  4. My boyfriend's mom is a teacher too. And I imagine how difficult it is! I agree with previous bloggers that sometimes you need to say something not so pleasant. I can tell you if I had such a stylish and kind teacher, I would go back to school once again!
The second and the third looks are so cute! I like both of that skirts.

  5. The last look is my favorite. I think it may be because I am just drawn to purple.
